Beach Week 2008

Kris, Jonah and I have been vacationing at Topsail Island last week. This was our first vacation with our baby boy. We shared an oceanfront beach house with family, lots of family. My parents, Kris's parents, Dana's parents were all there to join in the festivities and relaxation. Everyone had their own room and bathroom. This was very nice and convinient.

Jonah began to sleep through the night right before we left for vacation. I have to get up a couple of times between 4 and 6 oclock to put a pacifier in his mouth, but this holds him over and I am able to get a more sleep. On vacation our mornings started early. I would be up with the sun feeding Jonah his 6 oclock bottle and we would then go back to sleep. I would then wake up around 7 oclock to the pitter patter of feet upstairs. These were my nephew, Grady's feet. The sound of this alarm clock reminded me of our last vacation at Topsail two years ago when Grady was one. But the sound has gotten more rapid now that he is three. This wake up call worked out nicely, because then Kris would be up for a morning surf session. He has mentioned a couple times since we have been home that the surf was good the week we were on vacation.

Jonah was loved on all week long. The hardest part of vacation was making sure each grandparent had equal time with Jonah. I got use to sharing. This helped because I was then able to go to the beach and get some reading and relaxation in. Even on the beach, I would still be thinking about my baby boy. How was he doing? Was he behaving? These were the first questions out of my mouth. No matter what the true answers were the grandparents always said "he is doing fine" and "yes he is behaving".

This year, vacation took on a whole new meaning. I will always remember Jonah's first trip to the beach, the first time his feet hit the sand, his toes were in the water and is first surf session with daddy. I will remember that the early morning bottles were not so bad when you could sit on the deck and watche the ocean. Even my nephew Barrett enjoyed bottles on the deck too. Jonah enjoyed napping on the beach.
