Happiness comes from the most simple things...

In the chaos of the first few weeks with a new baby, things seem complicated.

Why is he crying?
How do I make him stop crying?
Is he hungry?
Can I go run an errand in between feedings?

As the days go by, things got easier. I figured out why he was crying and I could make him stop crying (most of the time :) I learned the cues that let me know when he is hungry and figured out just how much I could get accomplished between feedings.

I sat with a friend who does not have children at this time yesterday for dinner. I caught myself going on and on about Jonah. This is something all parents do. Everyone on the other end of these conversations always cooperates and listens to all that you have to say about your child. As a parent you could go on for days about your child without realizing. We were watching Jonah put his hands in his mouth, put them down and then smile at us. I turned to my friend and said "Jonah has simplified things". This sounds crazy coming from a new mother but think about it. Happiness comes from the most simple things when you have a baby. They do the most simple things and light up their parents lives with joy.

A simple smile, coo, pulling their feet up to take a look at the new discovery, taking a two hour nap without waking up once for the pacifier, falling asleep on your chest after the last bottle for the day, making funny faces in the shower with daddy are all simple things. But it is the simple things Jonah does that will put a smile on mine and Kris's face.
