The Small Things In Life

Today has been a great day for me and Jonah. We took advantage of the great weather this morning and went for a walk after our morning bottle. Tanner enjoyed the exercise too. There are many perks to having a May baby. For one, you are on maternity leave during the summer and you don't have to worry about cold season just yet. But one of the draw backs is the weather is too hot to be outside with the baby during the day. This leaves Jonah and I to finding things to do inside the home. But this morning the weather was nice. I hope this type of weather sticks around for a little while longer.

Most of the books I have read or am reading say the key to a happy baby that sleeps well is to follow a cycle of Eat, Wake, Sleep. This means the baby should eat, then play then sleep. It is the order of these three activities that help get the baby on a good routine. This is not an easy thing to do. When we first brought Jonah home it was hard enough to make him stay awake to eat, much less after he had eaten. But today, we had a perfect cycle. We finished our bottle (4 ounces), then we played and he finished the cycle by taking a nap for over 2 hours. It was beautiful!! I have the greatest since of accomplishment today. To those who are not parents or are parents of older children, this may not seem like such a big deal. Actually to most people you will think I am crazy. But to those with newborns or babies in general, would you agree that a good nap will set the tone for the rest of the day? I will take this small success and feel good about it today.

Jonah has been sleeping in a cradle in our room while he continues to wake up in the middle of the night to eat. He has been napping in our room as well. But today I put him down for his nap in his room. I would say by how long he slept during his last nap (did I mention he slept for over two hours :-) that he likes his crib.

I wish all the moms out there happy nap times for there babies!!
