Today was the first day that Kris and I woke up at home while Jonah was in the hosiptal. I contiued to wake up throughtout the night on schedule to pump and sneak a phone call in to the nursery to check on Jonah. Each time, the nurse said that he was sleeping peacefully and doing good. We decided to rest ourselves and made it to the hospital around mid morning.
When we got into the nursery, Jonah had a new room and bed. He had been moved from the back room of the nursery (where the heavy machines are) to a room along the hall way. He is also in a new bed that is open on the top instead of being in he hood. Kris and I brought pictures of Tanner and the two of us that are now taped onto his bed to view while we are away. Our morning visit was nice and filled with lots of loving, snuggling and kissing. I hated having to leave but knew that both Jonah and myself needed some rest.
Our second visit to the nursery was around 8:00 in the evening. As we walk into Jonah's room he is all upset because he was getting his first bath. Yes this was a first for him and much needed. Kris and I were thrilled to have been able to witness this event eventhough he was not happy about it. After the bath, the nurse put on his first shirt and hat. It was the perfect time for Mom and Dad to come in and rescue him. After all the excitement of the bath, he was very content to be wrapped in a blanket, and held close to us for more loving, snuggling and kissing. It was a perfect way to end the first day home from the hospital.
Kris and I survived our first day apart from our son. This was sad at times, but it was also a day full of exciting firsts. First bath, first shirt, first hat. first relocation. We are continuing to look forward to the day he is relocated to our home :)
