Home Sweet Home...

This morning Kris and I woke up excited. We were going to bring home our baby boy today. The discharge went well. The doctors and nurses were very informative and went through a teaching session with us. Kris and I were happy to see the doctor who was first to treat our little boy a week and a half ago. She was thrilled to see how well Jonah had progressed and was happy to see him going home.

Now that we are home the fun begins. Jonah fell asleep on the truck ride home and when he woke up he had a nice dirty diaper waiting for his mom and dad. This is the first of three dirty diapers we have changed so far. Right now, it takes both Kris and I to change a diaper. I know - how many people does it take to change a diaper? This is the case because Jonah had his circumcision this morning. I have to treat the area while Kris holds his feet. It is a process. I have a feeling we will get it down pat soon enough. After waking up and the diaper change, he was hungry. I happen to have 80 mL of breast milk to feed him. This lasted an hour and a half, then he was hungry again. Mind you there was no sleeping during this hour and a half. We tried breastfeeding and got one latch for only about 3 minutes. Then he let us know that he was not playing around and needed food NOW. We fed him 3 oz of formula and that did the trick.

Now for the best diaper changing story I have so far. After feeding and resting for a minute I realized it was time to change another diaper. This one was also dirty. While changing the diaper, Jonah decides to pee on himself and his clothes. So we change the diaper and the clothes only to remember that the changing table was wet too. I pick him up thinking we are done only to find out that his new clothes are now wet. So two outfits later we are good to go. He is now resting peacefully.

Kris and I know we have a lot of learning to do, but are excited about every step along the way. Things have not gone as planned so far, but we are truly blessed and looking forward to our life with our baby boy Jonah.
